Her daughter was moving to Zambia for a year as a volunteer with the International Justice Mission, a human rights organization. Gail received her B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law, in Delaware. The book is about the unique experiences that have shaped her life. Her compelling story takes you on a journey, looking through the eyes of a child, a teenager, a young adult, a mother, a wife, and a businesswoman. She opens her heart and exposes the fragmented memories of her world, sharing private details of her past and present, while providing hope for the future. This book has an underlying message of healing through reconciliation, and is a roadmap for those who are blessed to live in the 21st century. Indeed, Gail provides a message of emotional freedom for all of us – regardless of race, creed, color, economic status, or how you or your ancestors arrived upon this land that we love and cherish. Gail shares her surprising coping mechanisms for handling life’s challenges during desegregation in the rural south and the role it played in her future. Thus, Healing Parties was born and has merged her past and her future. She hopes that her unique experiences will encourage you to successfully manage the challenges in your life. The Ohio Knitting Mills Knitting Book: 26 Patterns Celebrating Four Decades of American Sweater Style $6.99 Paris, Milan, London . . . Cleveland? Yes, it’s true. For decades, this Midwestern city of grit and steel remained at the forefront of American fashion. Cleveland was home to such garment makers as the Ohio Knitting Mills, which created knitwear designs for department stores from Sears to Saks as well as for hundreds of labels, from Van Heusen to Pendleton. Author Steven Tatar discovered a treasure trove of mint-condition knitwear and patterns for men and women when he acquired the mill’s archive in 2005. Now, working with the original patterns, from the 1940s through the 1970s, he has painstakingly adapted 26 colorful knitwear projects for the home knitter. The majority of the patterns are for classic mid-twentieth-century women’s sweats, from 1956’s Abstract Expressionist to 1976’s Puppy Love. But there’s much more in The Ohio Knitting Mills Knitting Book: men’s sweaters like 1954’s Father Knows Best, as well as dresses, shoulder bags, ponchos, and scarf sets. Clear directions, supplemented by schematic charts and color guides, make all of the patterns easy to follow, for everyone from beginners to more advanced knitters. The patterns are featured in their original colors (teal and tangerine, ocher and avocado) alongside newer palettes geared to contemporary tastes. As you create your own versions of such mid-century standbys as New American Gentleman, Rebel Rouser, Wavy Gravy, and Beatnik Babe, there’s a lot more to enjoy. No run-of-the-mill knitting guide, this fun-to-peruse book includes vintage photographs; fashion lore, including a visual tour of original labels from national brands, regional department stores, and small-town shops; and interviews with Ohio Knitting Mills employees. All told, this book highlights the ingenuity and excitement of an important American fashion era. From argyle to zigzag, The Ohio Knitting Mills Knitting Book brings it all back. |

Sex Book – Sex Parties 101 $21.99 Though it may sound like an innocent how-to on hosting a sex toy party (as in selling vibrators to giggling friends), it is in fact a guide chock-full of ideas and tips on actual sex parties (as in getting it on with aforementioned giggling friends). Written by Simon Sheppard, it is written from the viewpoint and preferences of a gay man, but the lessons are applicable to any mix of gender or orientation. Filled with advice, Sex Parties 101 goes over party planning ideas, codes of conduct, and the ups and downs of group sex, with an emphasis on gay males. A good peek into the world of threesomes, foursomes, and moresomes, real life examples are also covered to give the reader a feel for the mindset of some past participants. Informative with a dose of tongue-in-cheek humor, if you’re a beginner interested in learning more about group sex, Sex Parties 101 is a great read. |

Celebrating Barbecue: The Ultimate Guide to America’s Four Regional Styles of ‘Cue $24 “Like jazz, barbecue is a uniquely American original, and few subjects ignite more passion, excitement, controversy, and competition. In “Celebrating Barbecue, ” Dotty Griffith, restaurant critic for “The Dallas Morning News, ” gives readers the lowdown on real barbecue, identifying the four great regional styles of American ‘cue (Carolina, Memphis, Texas, and Kansas City), as well as what Griffith calls “micro-styles” like Santa Maria Beef Barbecue or St. Louis Barbecued Snouts. Though reducing barbecue to a set of rules and specifications is, as Griffith says, “like teaching a cat to bark,” “Celebrating Barbecue” attempts (and succeeds ) in doing just that, beginning with the history of barbecue, defining each region’s preferences for meat, fuel, and seasonings. There are classic authentic recipes for slow-cooked meats such as Texas Brisket and North Carolina-Style Pulled Pork, with cooking temperatures, seasonings, woods, and techniques (including fail-safe techniques for bad weather or uncooperative equipment or fuels) explained in detail. Griffith includes recipes for mops, rubs, sauces, and marinades, as well as sources for ready-made flavor enhancers. A full complement of appetizers, sides, and desserts rounds out the more than 85 recipes. Menus are provided for each regional style so you can create your own barbecue feast. Travelers will find lists of barbecue restaurants, cook-offs, and festivals, and stay-at-homes will find the best places to mail-order ‘cue, as well as a directory of pit masters and a section on cookers. >Opinionated and informed, “Celebrating Barbecue” is written with wit, passion, and verve. A pleasure to read and to cook from, it’s the only book you’ll need to enjoy this most American of foods.” |

Champagne for the Soul: Celebrating God’s Gift of Joy $17.95 “”The injunction ‘Get real’ usually means ‘Leave your world of fantasy and return to what really is.’ True Realism always and everywhere is to find out where joy resides. In the past year this magical gift got lost or mislaid in my life. Mike Mason has located it, given it voice, and helped me to recover it. Even one sip of Champagne for the Soul is a heady, exhilarating experience.” -Brennan Manning, author of A Glimpse of Jesus: The Stranger to Self-Hatred If you were given the chance to be happy for the rest of your life, wouldn’t you jump at it? In Champagne for the Soul, bestselling author Mike Mason explains that the Bible does make this offer. Yet most of us hang back, reluctant and skeptical. Theologically most Christians will agree that the Bible teaches and offers a life of joy; yet deep down we’re not convinced that such a life is practical-for us or any ordinary person. But, says Mason, such joy truly is ours to claim and embrace. What you now hold in your hands is a call to throw off all worries and complaints and to “come and share your master’s happiness” (Matthew 25:21). Is it possible to live every day in joy? You will never know if you don’t try. These pages, drawn from the author’s own ninety-day experiment in actively pursuing joy, will lead you on a journey that will help you-no matter what your circumstances-to escape the trap of worry, fear, and dullness and grab hold of the joy of the Lord. Mike Mason is the best-selling author of several books, including The Mystery of Marriage, The Mystery of Children, The Gospel According to Job, and Practicing the Presence of People. He and his wife, Karen, an M.D. in general practice, live in Langely, British Columbia, Canada, with their teenage daughter, Heather.” |

In the Bible God instituted festivals and feasts. There is something in the human spirit that loves to rejoice, shout, and celebrate … and God likes it that way.> We were created for celebration, and the focal point of our praise should always be God. When we get glimpses of His character, expressions of joy should spontaneously erupt. God is a refuge; He is generous and righteous, full of extravagant love toward us. The Maker of heaven and earth is relational, He guides us, and He will never leave us. It’s time to discover God’s character and make Him the focal point of our celebration.” |

Confessions of an Interest Group: The Catholic Church and Political Parties in Europe $30.95 “>Following World War II, the Catholic Church in Europe faced the challenge of establishing political influence with newly emerging democratic governments. The Church became, as Carolyn Warner pointedly argues, an interest group like any other, seeking to attain and solidify its influence by forming alliances with political parties. The author analyzes the Church’s differing strategies in Italy, France, and Germany using microeconomic theories of the firm and historical institutionalism. She demonstrates how only a strategic perspective can explain the choice and longevity of the alliances in each case. In so doing, the author challenges earlier work that ignores the costs to interest groups and parties of sustaining or breaking their reciprocal links.>”Confessions of an Interest Group” challenges the view of the Catholic Church as solely a moral force whose interests are seamlessly represented by the Christian Democratic parties. Blending theory, cultural narrative, and archival research, Warner demonstrates that the French Church’s superficial and brief connection with a political party was directly related to its loss of political influence during the War. The Italian Church’s power, on the other hand, remained stable through the War, so the Church and the Christian Democrats more easily found multiple grounds for long-term cooperation. The German Church chose yet another path, reluctantly aligning itself with a new Catholic-Protestant party. This book is an important work that expands the growing literature on the economics of religion, interest group behavior, and the politics of the Catholic Church.” |

Boy-Sterous Living: Celebrating Your Loud and Rowdy Life with Sons $14.99 “Raising boys isn’t easy. Life with them is loud. If it’s quiet, they’re probably up to something. With humorous insight and practical advice, she offers encouragement and ideas to help both mothers and fathers impact and shape the lives of their sons. Home $29.99 “1922…Orphaned…the ache in his heart drove him on… Jimmy could not see the advantage of becoming a resident at the orphanage because of the pain that engulfed him. The affect of being abandoned by their mother, after his father died, consumed all five of the children. In the orphanage they at least had each other, but Jimmy was determined to find their mother and bring the family together again. Running away was his only answer. His trips away from the orphanage often led him into more trouble than he could resolve by himself. How could a child understand why Grandma Wilson and Uncle Marion kept sending him back to the orphanage? An education, food, and clothing meant so little to a young boy with an ache in his heart. Driven onward, Jimmy’s devotion to his siblings was powered by his desire to see them united with their mother and once again living in the old homeplace. —– “In the world in which children live there is nothing so finely perceived and so finely felt as injustice.” –Charles Dickens” |
