Online Home Business – Don’t Believe The Hype

A lot of us WANT to work from home; but after researching the topic, I have found that there is more hype than substance.  Many, many companies want our money, preying on our curiosity.  Online surveys, data entry, and telesales all sound like real opportunities, but they are usually just companies who list bogus opportunities and want us to pay for their lists.  Have you searched “Online Home Business Opportunity” online?  What you get is 500 million sites!  And the top sites are FULL of advertising!  Click on a few of these and you get lost in the hype.  You search again…and again.  The fact is that it’s not easy to make money online!  If it were, how many people would still have their “day job”?  I believe that the real way to create an income online is to start an online Home Based Business!  If you are up to the challenges of involving yourself in an online home based business opportunity, then I would suggest that you research your options thoroughly.

One way that many people gravitate towards is online marketing.  The costs are relatively low, but the work is long and tedious.  There is a lot to learn so be ready to invest a very long amount of time to research.  It is also very technical, so you should be quite internet savvy; or again, be willing to learn all you can about the internet.  The goal of this article is to summarize what you would need to concentrate on in order to be as efficient as possible during your learning process.  If you happened across this article consider yourself lucky.  Utilizing this “guide” will save you hundreds of hours and dollars!

First Things First

Be ready to spend a lot of time learning.  I’ve said that already.  If you don’t have a lot of extra time, and I mean time you would be able to invest in courses at night school, then I would not suggest getting involved in online marketing.  If you have the time then read further!

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

That’s right!  You’ll need to decide exactly which way to go.  There are many different avenues to pursue in online marketing, but there are only a few ways to really develop it into a full-time income.

1)    Sell your own product or service
2)    Sell another person’s or company’s product or service (affiliate program)
3)    Enable others to sell your own product or service (your own affiliate program)
4)    Enable others to sell another person’s or company’s product or service (2nd, 3rd, etc. tier affiliate programs)

That’s about it!  If you can think of other ways to make money online, it will generally fall into one of those categories.  For the purpose of simplicity, I will lump #4 into #2 (affiliate programs) and #3 into #1 (your own product or service).  Some people will argue that CPA (cost per action) networks would count as a different category, but I think that would fall into selling another’s product or service.  CPA networks allow you to start PPC (pay-per-click) campaigns to send someone directly to a company’s landing page to get them to perform some type of “action” like put in their name and email to become a “lead”.  These companies pay for leads developed this way.  In essence, you are selling someone else’s product or service.

Sell Your Own Product or Service

Pretty simple and straight forward, right?  The options are limitless here.  One consideration here would be if this product or service would be something you could offer online, offline, or both.  A lot of people write their own ebooks or develop their own software.  Some people perform services like write articles or do some of the mundane tasks involved in online marketing such as manually submit information to online directories.  Again, the options are limitless.  As you research online marketing, you may find something that you would have to do to promote your business that you could do for others and charge them for it.   Or you may find a product that you could buy wholesale and sell online the same as someone would do in a brick-n-mortar situation.  My advice is to pick something and stick with it “until the wheels fall off”!  You will learn so much and be glad you did.  Who knows?  You may even be successful!  Another thing to consider is to make your product or service available to others to sell in an affiliate program.  If people buy your product or service, they may want to sell it themselves and you could pay them a commission.

Affiliate Programs

The other option would be to sell a product or service that is already available.  There are thousands of affiliate programs on the internet.  The trick is picking one or two that you can be successful with.  There are many affiliate networks that allow you to sell a variety of products and services.  There are brand name affiliate networks and lesser known ones.  Again, the options are limitless here, too!  You would have to pick one or a few “niches” to promote.  Amazon, Ebay, and Google have affiliate networks.  You may have heard of Clickbank and Neverblue.  There are a lot of smaller companies that have their own affiliate programs:  like which ever website hosting company you choose.  You could get overwhelmed with them.  Just be conscious that just about any company on the internet has an affiliate program if they’re smart.  You could just start a blog informing people about something you are interested in or knowledgeable about and monetize your blog with Adsense or banners you choose from different affiliate networks. As people read your blog, they may click on those banners or ads and you make money.  Most of the affiliate networks will pay you if you direct someone to join their network and sell their products.  These are known as two tiered programs.  Some of them are three or more tiered.

There you have it:  hundreds of hours and dollars saved!  Choose which way to go and you will have saved so much time and money, you may even thank me some day!  The point here being that you may waste a lot of time before you decide exactly what to do.  There are only two ways to create an income online:  sell your own product or service, or someone else’s.  All of your other considerations are dependent on that first decision.  Read more about the rest of your journey on our website… I do wish you the best of luck!  Just be careful and make sound decisions.
